65 Characters Per Line


A character is any letter, number or any form of punctuation that is created when a key is pressed on the keyboard. This includes the blank space between words created by pressing the space bar.

Example A and Example B both have the same number of characters in them (119). They both would be considered as 2 line because of the amount of characters in them even though Example A appears to be 2 lines long while Example B appears to be 5 lines long.

The easiest way of determining the line count of a document is the find out the total number of characters in the entire document and divide it by 65. To find the number of characters in the document in Microsoft Word, simply click on "Tools" on the top menu bar and then click on "Word Count".
